The Glasgow Cleaners with ISO 9001 Quality Standards.

The Glasgow Cleaners achieved our ISO 9001 award — through our parent company — in December 2009 after working through the long process of developing systems that would ensure we met our quality standards for Glasgow Cleaning. The Glasgow Cleaners have ISO 9001 Quality Award

We wanted to show that The Glasgow Cleaners cared about the cleaning standard that our Glasgow cleaning staff could produce on a regular ongoing standard.

To qualify for the ISO 9001 Quality standard award The Glasgow Cleaners had to document every step in our processes to make sure we were capable of producing a high standard. And of course then checking on a consistent basis that all staff members of The Glasgow Cleaners were able to maintain that level of cleaning service.

The Glasgow Cleaners and Quality Control

From the beginning we decided that The Glasgow Cleaners were going to be concentrating on quality cleaning rather than quantity cleaning. We deliberately set our initial target customers quite low so we could work hard at ensuring all our staff were being trained in a planned structured way. Only when we as the Glasgow Cleaners management team had done that could we start to building a quality standards manual that would match the best in the cleaning industry and beat everyone else.

Obviously we did not then sit back on our office chair and forget about our Glasgow Cleaning standards. Every three months our managers and supervisors take time out to go over what we have learned about our business and review each stage in a more formal meeting looking to see what needs to be reviewed or improved in issues like cleaning staff training, supervisor training and of course us as cleaning managers.

This meeting takes place on the same day as we review our ISO 14001 environmental award as well because the two areas will often overlap with each other.

I still hear today from some business mangers and owners that ISO 9001 hampers them. That is often because it was was written by consultants usually people who did not fully understand its purpose was a management tool that helped the business. As a result it has almost become a millstone around their neck of those business managers.

The Glasgow Cleaners instead took the empty manual and really run it through our systems to make sure the manual works for us. This approach took longer to develop but it has worked wonders for The Glasgow Cleaners.

The Glasgow Cleaners Performance Measurement

All of The Glasgow Cleaners staff teams are performance measured regularly in a rolling formal 3 month reassessment along with ongoing monitoring of work by the cleaning supervisors and quality inspectors during every visit to their place of work.
