Quality Standards Glasgow Cleaners | ISO 14001 and Environment

The Glasgow Cleaners with ISO 14001 Quality Standards.

The Glasgow Cleaners achieved our ISO 14001 award — through our parent company — in January 2010 after working through the long process of developing systems that would ensure we met our Environmental standards for Glasgow Cleaning.

the glasgow cleaners 14001 awardWe wanted to show that we cared about the planet we lived on and we not wishing to harm any part of it by using toxic cleaning chemicals and methods which would create harmful waste products which would only serve to pollute our water systems.

We know that only about 1% of British Companies hold this award at this stage. However if your company has gone through the process of analysing every stage of your production and transport systems to achieve the standard you will want to ensure the people you deal with have done the same — won’t you?  If your Glasgow cleaning company has not looked into the cleaning chemicals and methods they are using they could be undoing all the good work you have done!

How The Glasgow Cleaners achieved ISO 14001

Just to give you a clue about some of the areas we had to consider in trying to get The Glasgow Cleaners up to the mark. Note this is the simplified version.  I personally led on the work The Glasgow Cleaners needed to do so I know it was far more than what you get here.

1. To assess the potential environmental effects of all our activities.

2. Train all The Glasgow Cleaners staff to think about the environment and the effect they have on that.

3.  Minimise the production of waste, materials, and energy.  This meant looking at transport of The Glasgow Cleaners cleaning chemicals to ensure they were not adding unnecessary points on our carbon footprint. Just one thing we did was to change our suppliers so we only transported concentrated chemicals diluted on site as necessary or here in our offices to avoid transporting containers of water from one part of the country to another.

Plus it reduced the huge numbers of plastic containers that were being used to carry that water which saves also saves manufacturing costs and the need to transport them to the nearest  recycling centre.  (We are now the only official distributor for these cleaning chemicals for the whole of Scotland.)

4. Consider how The Glasgow Cleaners Staff can contribute to the recycling of waste we see in the workplaces that we are cleaning.

5. Consider how we can ensure risk to the general public and staff is at a minimum at all times during our work.

The Glasgow Cleaners cleaning inspectors are now encouraging all our cleaning staff to bring us ideas which will help to ensure we get better all the time at doing the above.

The Glasgow Cleaners give thanks

We give grateful thanks to two of our cleaners who were working in our sister cleaning company in Aberdeen whilst completing their MSc Degrees in Environmental Sciences at the time and contributed a lot to our research into cleaning chemicals and the various impact of them on the planet.  It shocked us and would shock our cleaning competitors if they only knew what we discovered about some of the cleaning chemicals they are still using. Think air miles then double what you first thought and you would still be far far short of the truth!
